The Great British Spring Clean - Witham BID Style!

April 14, 2023

[Video To View] Members of Witham Industrial Watch, Business Improvement District (BID), put on their fluorescent jackets and donned gloves to help clean up an area of the industrial estate as part of the Keep Britain Tidy’s challenge The Great British Spring Clean 2023.  Rubbish attracts more rubbish, so the aim was to make a special effort to clear litter and help make the estates cleaner and more attractive for everyone who works there.

Staff from EA-RS Fire Engineering Ltd pledged to collect at least 20 bags of rubbish which made a significant difference in the Eastways area.  HG & Co organised a litter picking session on Thursday afternoon collecting more than 77kg of rubbish in one hour, with one team of two collecting 22.5kg!

“Talking to the teams who took part they said they actually enjoyed getting out and helping as they were keen to give something back to the local community,” said Liz Lown, Operations Director of HG & Co.  “We found that the people taking part in the litter pick now have a greater awareness of any litter they spot and we hope there will be regular litter picks on the estate to ensure the areas are kept clean”.

Adrian Cousins, WIW BID manager, and Clair Tomalin, Office Administrator, from Witham Industrial Watch promoted the campaign and alerted BDC of any larger items that needed removal.  Adrian said, “We really appreciate the efforts made by all those who took part in the Great British Spring Clean, we hope it will encourage more people to be aware of their surroundings and to take part in similar events in the future.”
