The Cabinet Office have launched a new system that will give the government and emergency services the capability to send an alert directly to mobile phones when there is a risk to life.
On Sunday 23 April at 3pm, the Cabinet Office will be testing a new emergency alerts system. As a result, your mobile phone or tablet may:
- make a loud siren-like sound, even if it’s set on silent
- read out the alert
The full message will read:
"This is a test of Emergency Alerts, a new UK government service that will warn you if there's a life-threatening emergency nearby.
"In a real emergency, follow the instructions in the alert to keep yourself and others safe."
"Visit gov.uk/alerts for more information.”
"This is a test. You do not need to take any action."
